How to Write Better AI Prompts
Prompt engineering is a skill that separates average AI users from power users. Follow these four steps to consistently get better results.
Define Your Goal Clearly
Start with a specific, concrete objective. Vague prompts produce vague results. Tell the AI who you are, what you need, and the format you expect. The more context, the better.
Assign a Role or Persona
Use system prompts or role-based framing: "Act as a senior UX designer…" or "You are an expert SEO consultant…" This steers the AI's tone, expertise level, and style.
Specify Format & Constraints
Tell the AI what format you want (bullet list, table, email, JSON, etc.), length, audience, and any restrictions. Constraints reduce hallucinations and keep outputs on track.
Iterate & Refine
The best prompt engineers treat it as a conversation. Follow up with "Make it more concise", "Add a CTA", or "Use a professional tone". Use our Prompt Optimizer to automate refinements.
